TANGO UNDERPANTS PTY LTD is delighted to announce that Tango Underpants was nominated for four awards at the 26th annual WA Screen Awards announcement in Perth last night, including:
ï‚· WA Screen Academy’s Best Short Form Drama
ï‚· Canon Australia Best Cinematography Short Form for Denson Baker
ï‚· Australian Writers Guild’s Best Script Short Form for John Collee
ï‚· Australian Directors Guild’s Best Direction Short Form for Miranda and Khrob Edmonds

Winners will be announced at the Gala Awards Ceremony on Monday 14 July.

A playful and engrossing short film, Tango Underpants was written by legendary screenwriter John Collee (HAPPY FEET, MASTER AND COMMANDER) and stars Emma Booth (PARKER, CLUBLAND, Underbelly: Golden Mile).

It was co-directed by Perth siblings Miranda Edmonds and Khrob Edmonds, photographed by award-winning cinematographer Denson Baker ACS (ORANGES AND SUNSHINE, THE BLACK BALLOON), and proudly produced by Feisty Dame Productions’ Tania Chambers and Impian Films’ Stephen Van Mil.

Commenting on the nominations, Chambers said: “Tango Underpants brought over 220 supporters together through a bold, clever initiative by ScreenWest/Lotterywest and Pozible. A stunning outcome!”

Tango Underpants tells the story of Carolyn (Emma Booth) – a young Australian backpacker who, after a bad breakup and too long on the road, has completely lost her mojo. However, all of that changes when she reaches South America. Here she discovers, not only the wonders of the Tango dance and the people, but also the vital importance of the right underwear.

The film hosted its international premiere over the weekend at the Palm Springs International ShortFest 2014, and was selected from over 300 films by audience vote to play a second time in the “Audience Favorites – Live Action & Comedies” category.

Following its World Premiere on Opening Night of the 23rd Flickerfest International Short Film Festival 2014 in Sydney, Tango Underpants was selected to tour nationally with the prestigious festival. It also screened in competition at both the 2014 St Kilda Film Festival and the 20th WOW Film Festival, and before thousands of filmgoers at the Perth International Arts Festival. It is currently screening on Qantas domestic flights until 31 July, as part of the airline’s ongoing support for Australian film content.

Tango Underpants was made possible by ScreenWest’s 3-to-1 initiative through the crowdfunding platform Pozible. The campaign generated 220 pledges ranging from $5 to $2,000, including five executive producers from around the world. It was shot in Buenos Aires, Argentina in June 2013.
